Family Therapy

I work with families in a calm space outside of everyday pressures. People often come to me because their relationships are triggering emotional pain and nothing seems to work to change challenging family interactions. Therapy is about finding new ways to think and relate to your problems and act accordingly. Change can come about when you become less reactive and get more thoughtful. With the assistance of a neutral person (therapist) you can grow yourself and find ways to manage what previously felt impossible to tolerate in both yourself and your relationships.

My approach to family therapy is evidence based proving to be effective even when people are in distress or wanting to change patterns of communication in the family system. Therapy is a place where you can become more thoughtful about the issues you are facing and find new ways to approach them.

Parenting

Parenting support continues to be central to my work. I draw on the  Circle of Security parenting concepts and I am accredited to use the Parent Hope Project, a  manualised parent program developed by Dr Jenny Brown. I have studied child and adolescent development for over 30 years.  I understand the ups and downs of parenting as I have been on this journey myself for the past 22 years.

Individual Psychotherapy

This is a still place away from the busyness of everyday life where you can talk about your problems and grow yourself within the context of your relationships, life and history. Individual therapy is a process of slowing things down enough to be able to see patterns and behaviours that keep you stuck, in pain, or moving away from where you want to get to and how you want to be. Working on your family of origin can make the biggest difference when you are trying to resolve your problems. Exploring your family history and your primary relationships will have a positive impact on every other relationship in your life.  Individual therapy offers an opportunity to grow yourself.

Complex Mental Health Presentations

I have extensive knowledge and experience working with children, adolescents and their families with high needs and complicated mental health presentations. I have worked in Inpatient Units for children and adolescents and continue to work with these services when required.

Supervision

I provide clinical supervision for mental health clinicians, mental health team leaders and teams. I offer a confidential, structured and collaborative space to facilitate reflective practice and systems thinking to enhance clinical practice and leadership. I also offer supervision to mental health clinicians working with families who are involved with the Family Court. This includes helping clinicians manage the complicated legal processes including requests to be cross examined in court.
